The funeral service for James Howard Howard, 78, of Porter, will be held at 2 PM today, Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. Pastor Brian Fahnel will officiate. James Howard died Monday, April 7, 2008 at his home in Porter, OK after a 13 year battle with prostate cancer. He was born October 26, 1929 in Muskogee, OK, the eldest child and only son of Jesse Howard and Gracie Ivalee (White) Franklin. He was Valedictorian of the Class of 1947 at Porter High School. While working at Brockway Glass he was drafted in 1951 and served two years in the U.S. Army in Korea. Returning home in 1953 he began a career as a truck driver for Supreme Bakers, which later became Keebler Co. James married the former Dolores Sue Tibbs in 1955. He retired after thirty-five years and moved to the Vanns Lake Community, and they began to travel to South Texas each winter in their RV. James was predeceased by his parents and two twin sisters, Jane and June, and their husbands. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores, of the home; daughter, Marcie Kaye Phillips and her husband, Don, of Oklahoma City; son John Leslie Franklin and his wife, Shaye of Tuskahoma, OK; grandchild Angie Hairrell and her husband, Patrick, of Stanley, OK and Jonathan Sprague; two great granddaughters, Ashley Hairrell and Piper Sprague; sister, Barbara Frost of Wagoner; numerous nieces and nephews, brothers–in-law Dink Tibbs, Jr. of Okay and Richard Tibbs of Tulsa; sisters-in-law, Alta Mashburn of Muskogee and Claudia Weatherford of Vanns Lake Community; other relatives and friends. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mallett Funeral Home, Wagoner.CPL US ARMY
