Evelyn Marjorie (Salter) Huebner, age 92, of Anderson, CA and formerly of Costa Mesa, CA, passed away on October 27, 2023.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law Emery and Mary Lynn (Walker) Salter; her sister Helen May (Salter) Nies; and her son John Paul Huebner, who died in infancy; and her former husband, Roger Humphrey Huebner.


She was born December 23, 1930, in Oroville, CA to Edmund Horace Salter and Marjorie Elizabeth (Stephens) Salter. Evie grew up in Fullerton, CA where her father worked for Sunkist.


After two years at the University of Redlands, she married and started a family. Graduating in 1969 from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor's degree in education, Evie later earned a master's degree in pupil personnel services from California State University at Fullerton.


As a licensed marriage, family, and child counselor, she always had words of wisdom and guidance to share.


Evie's career spanned decades of helping others, including case work for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County, Santa Ana Rescue Mission, Irvine Temporary Housing, and Families Forward. After she retired, she then counseled clients through the Caring Ministries Center at Christ Church by the Sea United Methodist Church in Newport Beach.In recent years, she relocated from her long-time home in Costa Mesa to Redlands, CA, and then to Anderson where she resided with her son Steve and daughter-in-law Sherri Huebner, also her caregivers.


Evie loved family history, reading, and opening her home to others. Her quiet life of steadfast faith gave hope and peace to all. Most recently a member of Trinity Community Church in Anderson, Evie gave of herself throughout her lifetime in the various churches of which she was a member, including over two decades as a Methodist minister's wife and then as a longtime greeter at Christ Church by the Sea.


She is survived by her brother-in-law Dr. Boyd Nies of Redlands, CA; son Thomas (Dottie Escue) Huebner, and granddaughter Mimi of Kingston Springs, TN, step-grandson Mitchell Moncada of San Anselmo, CA, and step-granddaughter Sofie Moncada of Santa Barbara, CA; daughter Angela (Ron) McDonald of Huntingburg, IN, grandsons LTC Joshua (Cari) McDonald of Georgetown, IN and Lucas (Melissa) McDonald of Monument, Colorado, and granddaughter Kathleen McDonald of Newburgh, IN; son Stephen (Sherri) Huebner of Anderson, CA, and granddaughter Jennifer Huebner of Fayetteville, NC; nine great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
