Bernice A. Abbott, of Syracuse, died Friday, March 21, at home. A native of Pompey, NY, she had lived in the Syracuse area since 1971. Bernice was a graduate of Fabius Central School. She also graduated from Cortland Normal School in 1939 and subsequently taught at Apulia School for a number of years. She was employed by the weather service in Washington, DC, and for the county of Onondaga for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. She was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Clifford Abbott, and two brothers, Gerald and Harland. Surviving are a sister, Beverly G. Clark of Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Ruth A. Abbott of Naples, FL; six nieces and nephews, Donna (Michael) Alberts of Syracuse, Larraine (James) Young of Union Springs, NY, Margaret King of Jamesville, NY, Mary Smith of Naples, FL, Terry (Nancy) Abbott of Fabius, NY, and James (Linda) Abbott of Lakeland, FL; and several grandnieces and -nephews. Funeral services were private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius, NY. Contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, PO Box 217, Syracuse, NY 13214. Arrangements were by Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
