DESMARAIS, J. Stuart J. Stuart Desmarais, 74, of La Costa, California, beloved husband of Roisin Desmarais, passed away peacefully on Friday, (June 4) at his home in California. Stuart was born on June 28, 1935 in Hartford, the oldest son of Blanche (Rioux) Desmarais and J. Anthony (Tony) Desmarais. He attended St. Anne's School, Holy Trinity High School in Hartford, CT and Hillyer College in West Hartford, CT. He was a U.S. Army veteran and earned the nickname Big Stu for his basketball prowess. He lived in West Hartford, Connecticut and was the owner and operator of Desmarais Oil Company in Hartford before moving to California in 1979. Stuart was a successful building contractor in Orange and San Diego Counties. Stuart was a member of the Manchester Army-Navy Club. He was an avid golfer enjoying the camaraderie with family and friends as much as the sport itself. In southern California, he and Roisin often had the opportunity to walk the California beaches together as they both loved to do. Stuart was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a loving son and brother, and he will be dearly missed by all who came to know his generous spirit, his big heart and infectious smile. Stuart leaves behind his wife, Roisin, three sons, and two grandchildren. He also leaves his mother, his siblings. He was predeceased by his father, Tony Desmarais and his brother, Richard Desmarais. If you knew him you loved him. We knew him well. The family is planning a commemoration of his life and friendships which will be held on July 17, 2010 10 a.m. at the Parish Center of St Peter Claver 47 Pleasant St. West Hartford.
