Audie Layne Miller of Slaughter was a husband, father, son, brother, friend and, according to those who worked with him, a law enforcement officer who "did it right."

Audie died at age 52 on Jan. 22 after a battle with cancer in Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, the same hospital in which he was born on Jan. 21, 1972.

He was preceded in death by his father, Milton O. Miller, and grandparents, Lecil and Nancy Miller and E. Lee and Evalena Bridges.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia B. Miller, and three children, Abby, Ava and Andrew Miller, all of Slaughter; mother, Ina Miller of Baker; sister, Robin Miller of Baker; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Valarie Miller of Clinton; father-and-mother-in-law, C.M. and Tammie Browning of Central; brother-in-law, Chad Browning of Houston; brother-in-law, Brad Browning and his wife, Vanessa, of Watson; and nieces and nephews, Riley and Joshua Beck of Clinton; Ruby and Jonah Browning of Watson; and Naomi Browning of Houston.

Audie was a graduate of Baker High School, attended LSU and earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond while simultaneously working in the reserves for the City of Baker and Town of Slaughter police departments. He began working fulltime for the Baker Police Department after college graduation then joined the Louisiana Department of Justice's Fugitive Apprehension Unit in 2010. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Baker.

Everyone who knew and loved Audie is feeling a void in the world today. He maintained a large presence in the law enforcement community through his job and service to others. Present and former coworkers agree that he always took his job seriously, did it right and had their backs at all times. He dearly loved his wife and children, loved traveling with them and enjoyed supporting his children's school activities.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until services at noon Friday, Jan. 26, at Bethany World Prayer Center South Campus, 11107 Honore Lane. The Rev. Gordon Atwell will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy.
