Funeral services for Biroda J. Seastrom, 87, were conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. The urn will be placed in a niche at the United Methodist Church Columbarium in Fairfield Bay, Ark.


Born Biroda June Dawson, the daughter of Dolliver and Pearl (nee Ruhs) Dawson, on June 23, 1926, at her parents home in Melville Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died Feb. 2, 2014, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 9 days.


Biroda was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church near Viola Center, Iowa. She attended the Viola Consolidated Schools in Viola, graduating with the High School Class of 1944.

On July 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Marvin R. Seastrom at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Viola. Five children Marilyn, Judy, Cheryl, Myron, and Michael were born to this union. They operated a dairy farm northeast of Viola for over a decade and a half before they moved to Carroll. Then later they moved to Waterloo, Iowa and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During this period of time, Biroda was a housewife and a mother raising their children. In 1984 they moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. They lived in Fairfield Bay where Biroda enjoyed caring for their home and babysitting. They retired and continued to live in Fairfield Bay until they moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa in December of 2012.

Biroda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay. Her greatest joy was caring for Marvin and her family and babysitting for her grandchildren.


Biroda was preceded in death by her son Myron Seastrom; her grandson Charles K. Hartman III; her parents Dolliver and Pearl Dawson; an infant niece Marsha Jane Dawson; an infant nephew Tommy Lee Dawson; her nephew Tim Dawson; her sister Betty Duvall Neyenhuis and husbands Darrell Duvall and Henry Neyenhuis; her brothers-in-law and her sisters-in-law: Sievert Stone, Wayne and wife Alice Seastrom, Wilma and husband Lynn Olsen, Hilmer and wife Ila Seastrom, and Lillian and husband Harold Anderson.


Survivors include her husband Marvin R. Seastrom of Audubon; her children Marilyn and husband Jim Dent of Kansas City, Missouri., Judy Seastrom of Evansdale, Iowa, Cheryl and husband Steve Elliott of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Michael and wife Sandy Seastrom of Greenbrier, Arkansas; her grandchildren Eric and wife Rebecca Cathcart of Kansas City, Missouri, Brandon Hartman of Davenport, Iowa, Stephanie and husband Justin Porta of Yutan, Nebraska, Alex and wife Meagan Elliott of Omaha, Nebraska, Kimberly Seastrom and Joseph Seastrom both of Springfield, Missouri, and Spencer Seastrom and Jessica Seastrom both of Greenbrier, Arkansas; her great- grandchildren Nina, Kane, Linus, Arlo, and Otis Cathcart all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Elliott Porta of Yutan, Nebraska; her sister Melva Stone of Audubon, and her brother John and wife Margie Dawson of Waukee, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
