 Mrs. Mandy Bell (Towns) Jenkins AKA Big Ma/Ms.B was born November 15, 1926. She was the 4th child out of 7 born to Ed and Addie B. Towns.


She joined Clem Baptist Church at an early age. She married Melvin Jenkins (Melp) on March 24, 1945.

In 1972, after losing everything to a fire… she moved her and her 7 children to 203 Ware St. Where she lived for 34 years. She moved her membership to St.Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Sims. She served as an usher, missionary, pastors aide, and the president of the Hospitality Committee.


She worked and retired from West Point Pepperell Mill in 1989.


On Monday, December 9, 2013 at 9:03 AM she was called to her eternal resting place.


She is preceded in her death by her husband, the late Melvin Jenkins and her daughter Tammie P. (Jenkins) Dukes.


She leaves to celebrate her homegoing 2 sisters, Gloria Cochran of Whitesburg GA and Ola Mae Echles of Carrolton GA. 9 Children, Mary Belle Bass, Catherine Freeman, Sabrina Woodyard, Chevelle Jenkins, Necole Roberts, and Melvin Jenkins of LaGrange GA; Deborah Jenkins and Linda Williams of South Carolina. 28  grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 2 Great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.


The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev. Felton James officiating. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.


The family will be at their home at 517 S. Lee Street.
