Ruth grew up on a farm in Southern Missouri near Poplar Bluff. She married Jesse Howard Ford on May 13, 1937 in Rombauer, Missouri. In the early 1940's she moved to South St. Louis where her husband worked for the Riefling Automobile Company. In 1952 they moved to DeSoto, Missouri. After her husband's untimely death in 1955, Ruth attended the School of Cosmetology in Festus, Missouri and became a hair stylist. She owned and operated the Petite Beauty Shop in DeSoto, MO from many years. She died of pancreatic cancer at DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Missouri.
