Maxine H. Abbe (1909-2006)
TOLEDO—Maxine Harriet Abbe, 97, of Toledo, died Saturday, April 22, at Grandview Acres, Toledo, following a short illness.
She was born Jan. 30, 1909, daughter of Edgar and Myrtle Billick Murray. She married Ernest A. Abbe on Sept. 26, 1926. He died May 14, 1983.
Mrs. Abbe moved to Toledo when she was a child and graduated from Toledo High School. She and her husband farmed in the Toledo and Montour areas until 1946, when they moved east of Garwin where they lived for 32 years. They retired to Toledo in 1978.
Survivors include: a son, Jerry (Janet) of Garwin; two daughters, Eunice (Joe) Menary of Williamsburg and Janice (Agris) Aperans of Waterloo; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Ila Jean Abbe Bratton of Toledo and Mary Abbe of Marshalltown.
Preceded in death by: two sons, Merle G. and Raymond A.; two grandsons, Mark Abbe and Erik Aperans; a brother, Jim Murray; and a daughter-in-law, Sarah Abbe.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Garwin, preceded by burial at 10 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, north of Toledo. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama.
Memorials: may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in lieu of flowers.
