Daughter of Morgan Hunter and Flora Bell Drewrey, wife of Warren Thomas White, Jr.

MIAMI - Frances D. White was born on February 2, 1921 in Norfolk, Virginia to Hunter and Flora Drewrey. Frances spent her early years growing up in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia with summers spent at her father's cottages at the beach. She attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia studying art and art education. In 1942 she married Warren Thomas White Jr., a graduate of VMI.

After her husband returned from World War II and joined Merck Sharp & Dohme as a chemical engineer, Frances and her husband moved to Harrisonburg, VA. During the time Mr. White was associated with Merck, they lived also in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Brazil. Art played a large part in Frances's life as she enjoyed traveling and visiting many of the outstanding art museums. She and her husband belonged to several art groups and became collectors of Latin American art. While living in the South Miami area, Mrs. White was a docent at the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami.

Before Mr. White's death in 2002, the couple moved to Dunnellon, Florida where her sister Mary Hunter Drewrey joined them. She and her sister became volunteers at the Rainbow Springs State Park. The beauty of the area and sitting on the bank of the Rainbow Springs River feeding the squirrels influenced her to write a children's book centered around the picturesque areas of Dunnellon. Mrs. White was a member of the Springs Presbyterian Church P.C.A. in Dunnellon.

Mrs. White died on Sunday June 10, 2018 at the age of 97 in Sarasota, Florida near her daughter Robin Anderson Fitzgerald. She is survived also by her other daughter Frances Randolph Kelts of Portland, Oregon, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be buried beside her husband at Woodlawn South Cemetery in South Miami, Florida. We will remember Frances as a Virginia lady.
