Lt. Col. William Terrell Harris, was the commanding officer of the 2nd Georgia Cavalry Regiment when he was killed on July 2 (day 2 of battle) at Gettysburg. His body was taken from the Gettysburg battlefield-- the exact location is now a farm-- to its current location in Columbus. His regiment fell into (Brig. Gen. Henry) Benning's Brigade, for whom Ft. Benning in Georgia is named.
