Ernest was the second of seven children born to Charles Robert and Esther Catherine (Harkey) Hatley. He married Luna Bell Whitley in 1934 and they were the parents of five children: Millard Charles, Doris Ophelia, Earl Ray, Floyd Sherrell(twin) and Lloyd Derrell(twin).

NEW LONDON - Ernest Clyde Hatley 88, died July 26, 1998. Funeral is 4 P.M. Tuesday at Friendship United Methodist Church. Visitation 7-9 P.M. today at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
