John Jewell Collins of Island Lake Prayers for John Jewell Collins, 85, will be said at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 27570 Volo Village Road, Volo, Ill. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Chicago, he passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his home in Island Lake. Mr. Collins retired in 1990 after 16 years of service from Service Supply Company, Indianapolis, Ind., retiring as a vice president of National Accounts. He was a naval combat veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. John was the beloved husband of Ruth (nee Menick) Collins; father of Renee P. Collins of Washington, D.C., and Dennis M. (Constance) Collins of Arlington Heights; grandfather of Gillian Schulz, Emily Collins, Jennifer Goodman and Devin Collins; son of the late Patrick and Emma Collins; nephew of the Irish Patriot Michael Collins. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society or Monarch Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. 3115 N. Wilke Road, Suite H, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
