Mrs Sophia Helen (Ims) Gilomen, age 107, of Highland, IL., died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL.

She was born October 28, 1900, in Highland, IL., the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Glasser) Ims.

Mrs. Gilomen was born on the family farm on Deck's Prairie-Marine Township, Madison County, Illinois. She grew up on the family farm attending Giger Country School. As a young woman she helped with the delivery and care of infants. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived on his family' s farm - Mrs. Gilomen continued to make it her home until going to the St. Joseph 4th Floor.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilomen operated a family farm with Mrs. Gilomen raising chickens, ducks, geese, a few dairy cattle and a big garden. She enjoyed working in her garden, raising flowers, quilting, crocheting, bingo, cards, pinochle and taking care of the children in her ever-growing family. She had been a long-time Sunday School teacher at her church.

On December 1, 1920, she married Edgar Nicholas Gilomen (DOD 3/17/1977) , who passed away March 17, 1977.

She was a member of Evangelical UCC - Highland, IL.

She was also a member of Honorary member, Women's Guild of the Church.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher Hill, Pastor
Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL, officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
