Mahautta Abee Hartsoe
Mrs. Mahautta Annis Abee Hartsoe, 83, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born and raised in downtown Winston-Salem to the late Daniel and Pearl Abee. Mrs. Hartsoe retired from the Veterans Administration after 38 years of service with the federal government. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church since March 1961.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Hartsoe; two sisters, Orellia Crater and Wilma Small; and a brother, Otho Abee.
Surviving is a son, Clifford Hartsoe of Rural Hall; and a daughter, Phyllis Brown and husband Jeff of Germanton; a brother, Lloyd Abee and wife Jean of Ormond Beach, FL; and a sister, Joann Cockerham of Winston-Salem.
She will be remembered for her kind, generous, wonderful spirit. She supported many causes, Special Olympics, Feed the Children, American Cancer Society, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Hospice, MADD, National Federation of the Blind, American Red Cross, United Spinal Association, and many more.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
Special thanks to her dear friends, Eloise Everhart, Katherine Holt and Kay Haas. The family wishes to thank all the loving and kind nurses and staff on the 8th and 9th floor of Forsyth Medical Center, but a special thank you to Dr. Penelope McDonald for her remarkable gift of compassion in the treatment and care of our mother.
