Sanford Oliver Locken, 83, of Williston, ND passed away Monday evening, March 28, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.


His funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon, April 6, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Williston, ND. Brother Michael Hermanson will officiate. Cremation has taken place.


Sanford was born February 28, 1933 in White Earth, ND, to Olaf and Ingrid (Rasmussen) Locken. He was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses by his mother Ingrid, who was the congregation servant for many years. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses when he was 9 years old in a lake near Battleview, ND in May of 1942.


He was raised with his 3 sisters on a farm northeast of White Earth and grew up loving small farm life and the open country. He attended grade school and graduated from White Earth high school in the class of 1951. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his sisters and was also part of the glee club in high school.


After graduation, Sanford began his career in carpentry and construction for Gus Forsberg Construction in the summer of 1951. He continued in that field for most of his working years and was a skilled carpenter. He also worked in the oil field and a small dairy farm. It was very important to Sanford to raise his children to love country life.


Sanford met Carol Ann Handy in 1967 and was married May 12, 1969 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Williston, ND. To this union 4 children were born.


Sanford is survived by his wife, Carol Locken of Williston, ND; his children; daughter, Sanya Locken of Williston, ND; son, Jeremy (Lynette Ramirez) Locken and their children Celina, Alayna, and Samuel of Dickinson, ND; son, Paul (Michelle Nicks) Locken and their children, Mackenzie and Aksel of Williston, ND; daughter, Kandra (Levi) Meyer of Williston, ND; sisters, Clarice Sanders of Williston, ND, Deloris (Kenny) Farquhar of Glasgow, MT, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.


Sanford was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice Locken.
