Shane was a good friend of my friend, Jeff Wilbanks. The article below was from the BAYTOWN SUN. It' so sad to know this man fought in the Viet Nam War for our country and lost his life to evil & uncaring people. God Bless His Soul. "Shane, Thank You Sir for Serving Our Country"

The family of Barney Ross Goodman is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and
prosecution of whoever murdered the Baytown man last week.

Goodman, 57, who recently lost both legs to diabetes, was reportedly kidnapped by two men, beaten severely and
thrown from a Liberty County bridge near Splendora last Friday.

A passing motorist found Goodman, who had spent eight hours crawling from a creek bed to the shoulder of FM
2090. He was flown by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.

Richard Ford, Goodman's brother, said family members were called to the hospital, but when they arrived he was
in a coma. Before slipping into the coma, Goodman was able to describe his attackers and their primer-gray
pickup truck to police, Ford said.

Ford said his brother, a Vietnam veteran who later became a country-and-western singer, got a ride from two
white males to cash his $1,800 monthly veteran's disability check.

According to Ford, Goodman told police the two men then drove him to Liberty County, where they beat him and
left him for dead.

Ford, who had not much contact with his brother in recent years, described him as "a free-spirited person."

While serving in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam in the late 1960s, Goodman was hit in the face by shrapnel, his
brother said. Later, he contracted cancer from which he recovered.

Upon returning to the Baytown area, Goodman began a singing career and fronted a local band, taking the last
name of Shane. He performed as an opening act for George Jones, Ford said.

"He just enjoyed life, enjoyed every day. He was carefree and just took every day as it came," he said.

Anyone with information should contact either the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at 93-336-4500, or Ford at 281-
894-7778.

Goodman was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his stepfather, three sisters and two brothers,
three daughters and a son, and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rolllingbrook Drive, with
visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
