Lena Mae Bagley Pearson Sanders
10/9/20 ~ 11/22/03
Our mother departed this life on Saturday, November 22, 2003, after doing what she loved best - shopping at Wal-Mart. She has left the vanities of the world and will now be beautiful always.
Mom was born on October 9, 1920, in Baker, Oregon, the sixth of 11 children born to Orange Eli Bagley and Belle George.
The family survived the Great Depression on a strawberry farm in Kelso, Oregon. Despite the struggle of that experience, Mom spoke of the farm with fond memories, and her strawberry shortcake was second only to Grandma Belle's.
She is survived by her three youngest brothers - Jack, Bob, and Ron - whom she adored. Two particular nephews - Donnie Croall and David Draper - she loved as sons.
Mom survived two husbands: our father, Harold Roy Pearson, Sr., and Reginald H. Sanders. We are grateful to Reg for his honorable goodness and the many years of companionship and protective care he provided her.
We, her collective 10 children - Marian (Herb) Gleason, Roy (deceased 1996) (Martha) Pearson, Arlene, AnnaMarie, Kathryn (Leon) Anderson, Judy, Carma (LaMont) Nielsen, Ellen Diane (Ken) Bryant, Dan (Vickie) Pearson, and Keith (Lisa) Pearson - recognize Mom's greatest gift of loving babies, and her persistent interest in the earthly progress of each of her 49 grandchildren, tracking the birth of each new great-grandchild (84, with seven on the way) and great-great-grandchild (one - Taycie Lyn - and one on the way). We thank our mother for giving us the gift of freedom - freedom to do and to be, and to grow up unhindered by conditional love; this rare gift is reiterated frequently at family gatherings and becomes progressively more valuable to us as we witness the world changing.
Special thanks are due three of Mom's daughters: Kathryn for taking her into her home and nursing her back to health; Arlene for then offering financial and emotional support for Mom to be able to exercise her own freedom; and AnnaMarie who made a place for Mom to live comfortably until the time of her passing. Not enough thanks can be given to two specific grandchildren - Sharla Birschbach and Wade Jensen - for their attentive care.
Mom loved Bonnie and Margaret; we thank them for returning that love and making this last year of her life all the richer.
The veil is thick from this far down. Mom, say hi to Dad and Roy for us.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Glenmoor 3rd Ward, 9455 South 4800 West, South Jordan, Utah. Friends and family may call Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah. Interment: West Jordan City Cemetery.
