John B. Ashley, 81, died at 4:30 yesterday (Aug. 11,1954) afternoon at St. John's Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past three months. Before his admittance to the hospital he lived at 909 Congress St. Mr. Ashley is the son of the late Joseph and Emily Laberdee Ashley, born near Heuvelton, May 4, 1873. In 1897 he married the former Genivieve Trottier at Notre Dame Church. She died in 1950.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Victor (Frances) Ward, John W. Ashley, and Joseph A. Ashley, all of this city; and one sister, Miss Emily Ashley of this city. Three children predecaesed him.

Mr. Ashley lived most of his life in Ogdensburg. In 1896 he went into business with his father in the grocery business. In 1919 he operated in the McNaughton Market, where his son, John worked with him for awhile. He moved once before he retired in 1932.

Funeral services in charge of the McLellan Funeral home, will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Victor Ward, 31 Jersey Ave., on Saturday morning at an hour to be announced. Mr. Ashley was a member of Notre Dame church and burial will be made in the family plot in Notre Dame Cemetery.
