Born in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late B.O. and Ada Odell Campbell Fields and husband of the late Charlotte Hardy Fields He was a retired truck driver for Harris Trucking and a member of Cross Bridges Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children: Gene (Mel) Fields of Columbia, Melanie (Donnie) Melton of Mt. Pleasant and Karen Fields Brown of Columbia; grandchildren: Jeremy (Victoria) Pope, Tabitha (Will) Brewer, Stefanie (Shane) Lancaster, Christopher Fields and Chrissy Potts; great grandchildren: William, Kailey, Emaley and Hayden Pope, Karly Lancaster, Hailey and Kinsley Brewer and Alyssa Potts; sisters: Peggy (Charlie) Kilgore of Mt. Juliet, Betty Eck, Mildred (Raymond) Brown, both of Lawrenceburg; brothers: Ben (Margaret) Fields of Texas, James (Edna) Fields and Shorty (Ruth) Fields, both of Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by brothers: Milton Fields and Kenneth Fields; sisters: Doris Ezell and Nancy Moore.
