I spent a lot of time at my Nanna's as a kid, she always had a Freddo Frog or Yogi Bear chocolate waiting for you as you run in the backdoor, then you'd wash it down with a spider. We always had the run of the house when at Nan's.
My Nan was a devout Catholic, and was part of a team who cleaned/maintained and flowered the Church for sevices weekly or daily if needed, I often spent time with her doing the same. Nan Crocheted with the finest detail, her work was incredible, she also played the violin, and gardened with a vengance.
Another past time was the Queen who she admired intensely, she had all memorobilia, I have a Cane Lounge Suite that Nanna had paid 1000 pound for in 1957 when Queen Elizabeth 11 visited, and had sat in the chair at the Town Hall in, Wollongong; my Nan bought that suite, and when I tell the story today most think I'm pulling their leg ! Nan even had two Corgi's, that says it all.
She had a generous nature and a kind heart, when my mother was a child and living in Kiama, Swaggies would stop daily and aquire a meal or a jam sandwich, Nan did'nt know why they would only target her place, but she found out later that a white rag tied to her fence was a sign for other Swaggies, and only known to the Swagman, that a feed would be given in that household. Forever missed Nanna.
