Mildred was born in a town called Oliver, Arkansas, in 1915. She grew up on a farm near Waldron, which succumbed to the depression and dust bowl of the 1930's. She went to California to visit her Uncle Hugh and Aunt Lena in Santee, near San Diego. After a few months there, she decided to stay. She lived the rest of her life in Southern California.
She raised four children, and had many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She lived with her husband Otis until he died in 1986, and then her son, Lee moved back down from Oregon to be with her. Lee lived with her for ten years, until she moved to a nursing care facility in 1996, a year after being diagnosed with dementia and/or Alzheimer Disease. She had just become so ill and often disoriented that she could not be left alone any more while Lee was at work. She passed away in 2002, about 3 months after a diagnosis of lung cancer.
