Longtime Alaskan VINTON OGDEN EDWARDS, 77, died Feb. 26, 2002, at his home in Anchorage. A memorial service was held at the Filipino Bible Church, 3340 Raspberry Road, with the Rev. Mike Weber officiating.

He was born July 7, 1924, in Sheridan, Wyo. Mr. Edwards served in the Army Air Corps from April 12, 1943, through Dec. 28, 1945. He received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a resident of Anchorage from 1957 to 1973 and a resident of Cooper Landing from 1973 to 2001. He worked for Reeve Aleutian Airways from 1957 to 1973 and owned and operated Vinton's Jewelry in Cooper Landing from 1973 to 2001. He was involved in the Cooper Landing Fire Department and ambulance service. He was given an award for bringing TV service to Cooper Landing. He enjoyed gun collecting and and spending time with his family. He and his wife enjoyed a long and loving relationship.His son Mark K. Edwards preceded him in death.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen; children, Robert V. Edwards, Rebecca C. Janke, Larry D. Edwards and James P. Edwards; grandchildren, Shelly Heintz, Jason Edwards, Diana Marlowe, David Edwards, Aaron Edwards, Travis Edwards, Cheryl Edwards, Crystal Edwards, Molly Janke, Tyson Janke, Laura Edwards, Robert Edwards and Daniel Edwards; great- grandchildren, Zoe Heintz, Paige, Eric, Cody and Bryce Marlowe, Jessica and Kyle Kirkwood Edwards; and sisters, Marian Mlynarik and Mabel Brown of Wyoming. Arrangements were by Anchorage Funeral home.
