Longtime Anchorage resident SUSAN L. EDWARDS, 51, died of cancer Jan. 10, 2002, at her home. Visitation was held with a service at Abbott Loop Community Church. The Rev. Rich Benjamin officiated. Burial was in spring at Angelus Memorial Park.

Mrs. Edwards was born Nov. 7, 1950, in Wilmington, N.C. She had been a resident of Anchorage since May 15, 1971, and was a full-time mother and homemaker. She was a member of Abbott Loop Community Church and was USA Hockey volunteer of the year in 2000. She enjoyed flying and had a private pilot's license. She also enjoyed showing dogs and doing stained glass work. Her family said: ''Susan was a loving mom and daughter, and a devoted wife. She always gave of herself freely and without reservation. Whether it was volunteering within the community, her children's schools, or youth hockey, Susan never hesitated to step forward. She was active in the church, and had a strong, rich spiritual life. She had a warmth and light visible to all, and never failed to have a smile on her face. We are comforted that she is finally at peace.''

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband, Rob Edwards; mother, Betty Wilson; brothers, Pat and David Wilson; son, Jason Edwards; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Dale Heintz; granddaughter, Zoe Heintz; parents-in-law, Vinton and Helen Edwards; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Larry and Lisa Edwards, Pat and Cindy Edwards, and Becky and Fred Janke; and nieces and nephews, Diana Marlowe, David Edwards, Molly Janke, Travis Edwards, Tyson Janke, Aaron Edwards, Laura Edwards, Robert and Daniel Edwards, and Mike and Barry Wilson. The family requests memorial donations be made to any charity or church of the donor's choice. Arrangements were by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary & Crematory.
