Listerman was born in Coyle to Myrtle John and Inez Capitolia (Allison) Listerman. He lived in Coyle during his early life and graduated from Coyle High School in 1938. He married Darlene Stokes on Feb. 15, 1939, in Payne County. After his high school graduation, he moved to California where he lived until his retirement in 1991 when he returned to Oklahoma and moved to Perkins. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was a member of the Ingalls Masonic Lodge No. 128 and the Perkins VFW. Listerman was predeceased by his father, his wife and one grandson.
