Obituary:
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Brooke Petray, 82, pioneer resident of Northern California and member of a prominent Oakland family, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Gothic Chapel, Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Petray died Thursday night at an Oakland hospital, after a lengthy illness.
She was the widow of Henry Calvin Petray, for 41 years an Alameda County educator and for 23 years principal of Woodrow Wilson Junior High School here. A native of San Juaquin County, Mrs. Petray was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Brooke, early-day civic leader who crossed the plains to California in a covered wagon, and who was city councilman and mayor of Santa Rosa.
Mrs. Petray was a resident of Santa Rosa for more than 20 years, and was educated at the Methodist College there. With her husband, she came to Oakland in 1906, and had made her home here since then. Her residence was at 184 13th Avenue.
Mrs. Petray was a past-president of the Oakland Club, and a member of Oak Leaf Chapter, O.E.S., the Cunningham Chapter, Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Plymouth Congregational Church.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Henry C. Petray, Oakland dentist; Brooke Petray, executive of an Oakland towel firm; a daughter, Miss Marian Petray, Castlemont High School faculty member; a sister, Miss Callie Brooke, and four grandchildren, Yvonne, Clay, Anne, and Margaret Petray.
