Gerald Rasmussen, 71, of Sidney died Monday, April 28, 2008 in Batesville.

He was born January 5, 1937 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Thomas and Rhoda (Meinke) Rasmussen. He worked for twenty years at Townsend's in Quality Control and was a cattle farmer. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and was very knowledgeable about airplanes. He enjoyed fishing with children and watching wildlife on his farm. He loved to read, trips to Branson and gospel music. Gerald was a meek, kind, loving and fair man who loved his family and was a faithful Christian. He was a member of West Baptist Church and prior to that he was the Sunday school director at Sage Baptist Church for many years.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 48 years Lois (Slade) Rasmussen of Sidney; two daughters and sons-in-law: Sheryl and Curt Thompson of Batesville and Dana and Noel Porte of St. Petersburg, Florida; two grandsons: Jon Thompson and Austin Porte; and one granddaughter, Sara Porte.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-parents, Adolph and Eva Larsen; a twin sister, Geraldine Rasmussen and in infant grandson, Aaron Matthew Thompson.

Graveside services are at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery with Bob Dailey officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Emery, Dr. Seth Barnes, Dr. Mohit Narang and his grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
