Ocala - Barbara (Bobbie) Hunt Lawson Clemmons went to be with our Lord on May 11, 2008 after having a stroke. She was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church. Bobbie was born in Savannah, GA on September 6, 1929. She attended Georgia State Women's College (now Valdosta State University) where she met her husband, Elton, while he was attending Emory Junior College. They married on September 11, 1948 and then moved to Gainesville where she worked in the Registrar's office while Elton attended the University of Florida. After Elton's graduation in 1951, they moved to Ocala where she worked as a secretary at Ocala High School. After having three children, Bobbie later went back to school at the University of Florida where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She then taught speech, drama, and debate at Ocala High School for 10 years and then for two years at St. John's Lutheran School. She also taught ballet in her home for several years. Bobbie loved to study, so she went back to school again at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC while staying at their mountain house. She received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling in 1986 and became a Board Certified Counselor. She traveled to 13 different countries through Oriental Missionary Society (OMS) teaching missionaries techniques in Christian counseling. She furthered her counseling studies under Dr. Gary Sweeten at Equipping Ministries International in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bobbie worked as Lay Ministries Coordinator at Grace Episcopal Church from 1985 to 1992. She traveled to India every summer for 14 years and taught Pastoral Counseling and Breaking Free From the Past at South Asian Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS), a graduate School of Theology. She was the first woman and the first non-Asian to give the commencement address at graduation. As a counselor Bobbie served the Lord by helping and touching the lives of countless people. Bobbie is survived by her husband, Elton, who loves her more than words can express, three children: Bill Clemmons and his wife Michael (Citra), Lynn Nilson and her husband Cliff (Tallahassee), Julie Kesselring and her husband, Andy (Ocala); 8 grandchildren: Rebekah, Sara and Emily Clemmons, Stacey Gilmere, Jonathan and William Nilson, Stephanie and Brittany Kesselring; and one great-grandchild Walter Thomas Hoffman. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Mary (Norton) and Roger Lawson, her grandmother Julia Harrison Norton, and her birth father Wesley Hunt. We will miss her so much, but she left us the greatest legacy and example - an abundant life of service to our Lord Jesus Christ. Her body is gone, but that legacy will live on from generation to generation. Visitation will take place at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home on Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala on Friday, May 16 from 6 to 8 PM. The funeral worship service will be held at Christ the King Anglican Church (Living Waters, South entrance) located at 3801 N. US Hwy 441 in Ocala on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 pm; after which, there will be a graveside service at the Citra Cemetery in Citra. Special contributions can be made to "Christ the King" Anglican Church mailing address 3850 W. Anthony Rd Ocala, FL 34480.
