Joanne married Raymond Magnuson in December 1949. They lived in Temple and later moved to a farm north of Temple where they began raising their family. Their first child, Allen, was born and died in May 1952. They had two daughters and a son before moving to Ray. The couple divorced in 1969. Joanne moved to Hillikono, Oregon to get a fresh start in 1970. Missing her home, family, and friends, they returned to Ray in 1971. She met Stan Aardahl and they were married in September 1975.
Joanne loved to keep busy whether it was work, play, or travel. She spent over 50 years working as a grocery clerk in Ray and Tioga. One of the reasons she returned from Oregon was because she missed the people she met everyday at work in the grocery store. She also loved to travel and saw much of the U.S. She particularly enjoyed camping in state and national parks. As much as she loved Ray, she always put off coming home until the last possible minute.
Joanne enjoyed her grandchildren, never seeming to tire of them, their energy, or their endless chatter. She loved her friends, her church family at Ray Lutheran, and activities with the Ray Lions Club.
Joanne is survived by two daughters, Audrey Miller, of Burnsville, MN, and Colleen (James) Weyrauch of Minot, ND; son Steve (Linda) Magnuson of Ray, ND; eight grandchildren, Jill, Stacy, and Brad Miller, Christie Weyrauch, Alyssa (Dan) Sharbono, Adam Weyrauch, Cameron and Shannon Magnuson; six great grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Nathaniel, Tristan, Keegan, and Vanessa; three sisters, Phyllis Amb, of Woodburn, OR, Marilyn Holland of Beaverton, OR, and Judy (Ron) Olson of Garrison, ND; three brothers, Don (Audrey) Jacobson of Chandler, AZ, Rodney (Carol) Jacobson of Bismarck, ND, and Jerry Jacobson of Couer d'Alene, ID; aunt Marie Conyers of Kent, WA; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Stan; her parents; infant son, Allen Raymond Magnuson; and son-in-law Jerry Miller.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials be sent to the Ray Lutheran Church in memory of Joanne.
