Mr. Jas. Blalock, a good hard working carpenter, aged 48 years, was killed by the switch engine at Champion last Saturday morning. He was walking on the track, the engineer blew the whistle put on the brakes but he did not pay any attention and was thrown across the track with the above result. He leaves a wife and several children.

A very sad accident occurred at Champion Saturday morning in which Mr. Monroe Blalock lost his life. From the best information we can get it seems that Mr. Blalock was walking along the railroad in front of the switch engine which was going up grade and paid no attention to the danger signals or to those who were calling to him to get out of the way and was run over and instantly killed. The engineer reversed his engine but it did no good. It is supposed that Mr. Blalock was drinking at the time. Justice Kemp went to the scene of the accident, but after examining a few witnesses it was deemed unnecessary to hold an inquest.
