MRS. WILLIE BRITTAIN DEAD
On Thursday morning, June 5th at 6:30, the death angel visited the home of Dr. James T. Brittain, Oneonta, and chose for his reward the sweet spirit of his beloved wife, Willie Brittain.
Bereaved hearts, a saddened host of friends and a happy home circle irremediable broken, a home and many near and dear ones now mourning a loss implacable, are in our midst, and these caused by the Giver of all taking back unto Himself that which He gave two fond parents thirty-four years, four months and eighteen days ago.
On the threshold of young womanhood, developing into a beautiful character of usefulness to all about her and a life of self-sacrifice for the welfare and pleasure of others, she was stricken. Being taken just at this stage of an earthly career adds sadness unto sadness and grief unto grief, especially so to all who knew her when they contemplated the bright promise that her life would have been one long blessing to all whom she might be associated, if only she had been spared.
She was surrounded by many of life's blessings, the greatest of which was being a member of a home where happiness reigned. From her earliest childhood she had been an almost constant companion of her father, J. A. Brice, and even to her last illness she called for papa when he was away from her bedside. When but a little child he had affectionately dubbed her "Billie."
On May 1st, 1912, she was married to Dr. James T. Brittain and to this union were born two sons, James and Robert.
She joined the M. E. Church, South, Oneonta, in early life, and lived a consistent Christian life to the end, and her love for God and His cause grew stronger, until life's setting sun closed her earthly pilgrimage. Her home life so beautifully reflected the Divine Image, that it will ever prove an inspiration to those left behind. Her Christian character shone with such luster as to impress her neighbors and friends that she communed with her Lord. For about four years she was afflicted, yet she was cheerful and did not complain. She was a true faithful wife, loving mother, daughter and sister and tried to make joy and sunshine for home and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband, two little sons, father, J. A. Brice, three brothers, Otto, Hortense and Norvel Brice, four sisters, Mrs. Sam Ingram, Mrs. Manning Holmes, Misses Elsie and Dorothy Brice.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church, South, Friday afternoon by her pastor Rev. J. H. Williams, assisted by Rev. S. R. Lester, Rev. George Elliot and Rev. T. B, Nation.
Interment in the family plot at Old Liberty cemetery. The floral tributes were many and most beautiful, touching evidence of the esteem in which this good woman was held.
