Born in Greenville, son of John R. and Kate Whitten Clay. He married Virginia Ladell O'Daniel on Sept. 7, 1940, in Atoka, OK. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from the American National Insurance Co. in Paris. Surviving are his wife and son, John R. Clay of Paris, 3 daughters, Katherine Cooper of Plano, Mary Derx of Plano and 6 grandchildren.
