From LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, May 30, 1985...434 19th SE, died Fri., May 24 at McCuistion Hospital. Graveside services at 4 p.m., May 25 with Rev. Tom Lane Bright-Holland in charge. Born in Greenville, son of John R. and Kate Whitten Clay. He married Virginia Ladell O'Daniel on Sept. 7, 1940, in Atoka, OK. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from the American National Insurance Co. in Paris. Surviving are his wife and son, John R. Clay of Paris, 3 daughters, Katherine Cooper of Plano, Mary Derx of Plano and 6 grandchildren.
