Vyrl "Dean" Rodney age 80, of Seneca, Missouri, was called to heaven at 8:25 p.m. on Wednesday ~ May 14, 2008, at the National Healthcare Center in Joplin, Missouri following a long illness.

Dean began her journey on March 30, 1928 in Hiwasse, Arkansas born to the late Willie "Homer" Stephens and Dora (Mahurin) Stephens. She lived most of her life in Stella, Missouri before moving to Seneca, Missouri forty two years ago. Dean dedicated her life to raising her family. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening ~ she loved flowers and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Dean will be remembered by family and friends as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, caring friend and neighbor. She served the Lord by leading music for seventeen years at the Hart Community Church.

Dean was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Ted Spencer on February 19, 2006; second husband Ray Rodney in 2003; one son ~ John Wesley Spencer; a brother ~ Carnie Stephens; three sisters ~ Myrl Stout, Pearle Blevins, and Oleta Cargile; one grandson ~ Aaron Garrett.

Survivors include her four sons ~ James Leroy Spencer, Sr. of Pineville, Missouri; Ronald Dean Spencer and wife Robin of Sheldon, Missouri; Arnold Lee Spencer and wife Jane of Neosho, Missouri; and Teddy Wayne Spencer and wife Shirley of Anderson, Missouri; four sisters ~ Zola Griffith of Jane, Missouri; Bonnie Newberry of Green Forest, Arkansas; Naomi Lewis of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; and Vivian Blevins of Stella, Missouri; twenty four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren along with a host of family and friends who will dearly miss Dean and her kind ways.

Funeral services for Vyrl Dean Rodney will be held on Saturday ~ May 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, Missouri. Brother David Munoz will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Macedonia Cemetery in Stella, Missouri. Kenneth Garrison, James Spencer, Jr., Seth Bommarito, Allen Roark, Larry Spencer, and Eddie Spencer will honor Dean's life by serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be on Friday ~ May 16, 2008 from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri. The family will receive friends at this time.
