Thomas Attewell was born in Bradmore, Notts., but was baptised in the church just a mile away in Bunny, Notts. on 22 Sept 1843. He was born to William Attewell and his wife Ann Marriott. His father was a farm labourer. Thomas became a cottager and eventually a farmer employing a few workers and in one census he is called a grazier with his own land.

In 1868 he married Mary Ann Hickling. She was about 10 years older than he. They had at least four children, 3 daughters and a son. Namely Annie, Mary, Clara and Henry. Annie died as a child. His wife died in 1894 leaving him a widower with three young adult children.

After his wife died he moved to Harby where in 1905 at the age of 62 he married 38 year old spinster Mary Elizabeth Whittle who was a native of Whissendine, Rutland. They apparently had no children together.

When he died in 1931, Thomas left a will and the index of the probate says his estate was worth £1802 19s. His wife Mary Elizabeth is named as is his unmarried daughter Clara Kate. He was buried in Harby on April 1939. He and Mary Elizabeth share a stone.
