Rev. Israel S. Nordyke was born in Washington County, Virginia, March 6, 1810. He came to Missouri as a young man and married Elmira Metcalf at Trenton, on Sept. 1, 1844. The couple had ten children. They helped found the First Baptist Church at Princeton, Mo. They came to Marshall (Missouri) in 1863 and engaged in the merchantile business with a son-in-law, Jacob Keister, who later built the old Opera House on West North Street. Rev. I.S. Nordyke was an ordained Baptist minister and a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall, founded January, 1868. He died in Marshall, February 20, 1900.
