Glenn Alvin Matthews
Vale, N.C. - Mr. Glenn Alvin Matthews, 82, of 9310 N.C. 10 of Vale, passed away May 15, 2008, at Grace Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1926, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Junius Lester Matthews and Ida Gemmiae Rhoney Matthews.
He retired from Southern Desk and Drexel Heritage as a molder operator and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Anthony Matthews, and two brothers, Carl and James Matthews.
Mr. Matthews is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Matthews, Randy and Marynetta Matthews, Dennis and Elizabeth Matthews, Darrell and Gale Matthews, all of Vale, and Farrell and Pat Matthews of Morganton; a brother, Harold Matthews of Vale; three sisters, Virginia Leonhardt of Vale and Lunet Deal and Eunice Fisher, both of Hickory; nine grandchildren, Michelle Malouin, Steven, Brian, Johnnie, Keisha, Angela, Justin, Stephanie and Brooke Matthews; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Bingham Memorial Evangelical Methodist Church, with the Revs. Howard Torrence and Earl Cross officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.
