James Waters Anderson was born in Darwin, Illinois in 1837. He was the husband of America Archer, who he married on 21 Oct 1860 in Clark Illinois. She was the was the Granddaughter of Zachariah Archer, (who was a private in the Penna. Rifle Reg in the Revolutionary War. - National Register of the society of the sons of the American Revolution). They were parents of Archer R & Charles H Anderson. James was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a Captain in Company C, 10th ILL Regiment Volunteer Infantry. He died April 15th 1895 in Denver, Colorado. He was about 58 yrs of age. They are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Denver Colorado.
