Ethel May VanHyning, 62, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 18, 1961, in Beardstown, the daughter of Jim and Betty (Hamm) VanHyning.

She is survived by her brother, David (Roxanne) VanHyning and sister, Lonnie Marie VanHyning, both of Jacksonville; nieces, Julie and Grace; and great nieces, Brittney and Olivia. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Benjamin.

Ethel May was a 1982 graduate of Graham High School in Jacksonville. She attended Elm City Rehabilitation Center and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She had previously attended Church of Our Saviour and Lincoln Land Baptist Church. Ethel loved and collected teddy bears. She also loved participating in activities with Elm City, and her church and family.

The family will host a memorial service 9:30 AM Friday, July 21, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, followed by burial at Concord Cemetery. Memorial donations made in memory of Ethel may be sent to the Elm City Center or the Special Olympics. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements.
