Joseph "Joe" Warren Colegrove
Beloved husband of Connie Flagg; friend of Stephanie Rinaldi; dear father and father-in-law of the late Joseph Hoffman, Shawn (Dr. Daniel) Johnson, the late David (Kim) Colegrove, and Julie (Joe) Hundelt Oglesby; dear grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of 6; dear brother of the late June Stewart and the late Earl Colegrove, Jr.; our dear uncle, cousin, and friend.
Sergeant Joseph W. Colegrove, DSN 165, was 87 years of age and passed away on April 5, 2024. Sergeant Colegrove grew up in Pagedale, Missouri. Sergeant Colegrove was the youngest patrolman ever to have been promoted to the command rank of sergeant in the history of the University City Police Department.
As a proud patriot, he was extremely proud of his service in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He originally started as a Gunner Mate and transitioned over to the rate of a Yeoman. He was discharged from the Navy as a Yeoman 3rd Class.
Joe chose a path of law enforcement, following in the footsteps of his father, Mr. Earl A. Colegrove Sr., DSN 101, and his brother, Mr. Earl W. Colegrove Jr., DSN 119, onto the University City Police Department. At the time of his retirement in 1991, the Colegrove family had had an officer on the University City Police Department for 75 years. He honored that legacy with the highest level of commitment.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Maryville University graduating with honors. He spent his retirement enjoying fishing, country music line dancing, gardening his famous tomatoes, and enjoying time with family and friends, especially the love of his life, Connie Flagg.
