Robert Moore Allen passed away on September 18, 2023, in Winston-Salem after a long illness. He was born on August 8, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late Hattie Bell McCracken Allen and the late Clifton Judson Allen. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, JoLynn Palmer Allen and his brother Judson Boyce Allen and sister Rosalind Allen Barker. Robert is survived by his children Jennifer Allen Faeth (William) and Geoffrey Robert Allen (Claire), his grandchildren Palmer Bowen, Virginia Bowen, Davis Allen, and Grey Allen, along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert earned his bachelor's degree in English from Vanderbilt University, where he began his lifelong work as a poet and writer. While a student, he and several friends opened a coffee shop that sponsored poetry readings. He was a development officer at Vanderbilt before living for a year in Madrid with JoLynn and their children. Upon their return, they moved to

Winston-Salem where Robert joined the office of communications at Wake Forest University. He eventually served as the University's director of communications.

After living in Winston-Salem for several years, Robert and JoLynn moved with their children to Walnut Cove, where they built and lived in a dome house within a community of local renowned artists.

Robert was among the founders of Excalibur Enterprises, Inc. He later was the president of Allen Marketing, Advertising, and Communications, Inc. For more than three decades, the company provided fundraising consulting for schools and churches in the Southeast. Under his creative direction, Allen MAC produced marketing materials for the company's clients.

Throughout his adult life, Robert wrote poetry. His poems were published in three volumes during his lifetime. His writing was also published in several journals. A devoted reader of the writings of psychiatrist Carl Jung, Robert actively pursued a comprehensive study of Jung's work. Although his focus was largely personal, he also led workshops in dream analysis. Robert enjoyed many hobbies, including photography and making stained glass.

In their later years, Robert and JoLynn shared a love of travel and spent many happy times on trips abroad.

In lieu of flowers, donation to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Alzheimer's Association would be most appreciated. A funeral service will be held on October 20 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Winston-Salem.
