Gertrude H. Seward


Mrs. Gertrude H. Seward, 4 Lexington Lane, Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Toms River and Avenel, N.J., died unexpectedly Tuesday at the home of her son, Douglas T., Marietta, Ga., while visiting. She was the widow of Burton F. Seward who died in 1960.


Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Louis J. and Caroline Holley Diem, she was graduated from Scranton High School and Lackawanna Business College. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a secretary by Hudson Coal Co. She was a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Scranton, the First Presbyterian Church, Toms River, and the First Presbyterian Church, Avenel, where she had served as a deaconess and with the Ladies Aid Society.


Also surviving are an additional son, Ronald M., St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by a son, Rebert, a daughter, Louise Caroline, and a sister, Louise Diem Longmore.


The funeral will be Saturday with services at 10 a.m. in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., by the Rev. Gordon Wilson, pastor, Berean Baptist Church, Carbondale. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.


Friends may call Saturday, one hour before time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor s choice.
