FUNERAL OF Lt.-Col. LUTYENS.

Interment at Stanstead.

The funeral took place on Saturday, in Stanstead Churchyard, of Lieut.-Col. John Lutyens, of Spring Hall, Stanstead, who died on Wednesday last while on a visit to Ipswich. Col. Lutyens was the son of the late Capt. Chas. Lutyens, of the 29th Regiment, and was educated at Wimbledon School and the Royal Military Academy. In 1874 he joined the Royal Engineers, and retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1904. He served in the Burmese campaign, 1885-87 (medal and two clasps). He married in 1887 Miss Alice Emily, the daughter the late Col. Edmund D'Arcy Hunt, of the 9th Lancers and Inniskilling Dragoons. About 20 years ago Col. Lutyens came live at Stanstead and he was greatly liked by his friends and neighbours. He took a great interest in the Ex-Service Men's Club, and was a vice-president of the local Comrades' Club. The service was conducted by the Rev. L. Finch (rector), and he was assisted by the Rev. Wm. Lutyens, (brother of the deceased), the Rev. A. R. Parsons (Hadleigh) and the Rev. A. G. Aitkens, a former rector. Before the service the organist (Mr W. Kilburn) played "Blest are the departed" (Spohr), and during the service "The Dead March" in ''Saul," and while the congregation was leaving the church "O rest in the Lord" (Mendelssohn). The choir sang the hymn "Abide with me," and on leaving the church for the graveside chanted the Nunc Dimittis. The coffin was draped with the Union Jack, and at the close of the service Mr. Finch played the "Last Post." The mourners were Mrs. Lutyens (widow), Mrs. Atkinson, General and Mrs. Acton Schreiber, Mr. Fred Lutyens (brother), Miss Irene Lutyens (sister), Mrs. Arthur Lutyens, Miss Beatrice Lutyens, Mr. Eadred Lutyens, Mr. Archie Lutyens, Colonel Alan Mount, and Capt.
