Stephen was one of four sons of Guard (Gad) Austin and Susanna Callendar. Stephen was appointed as "Pinder" or Pound Keeper on 3 Apr 1798. He appears on the Juror's List on 25 Dec 1798, and Overseer of Highways 1 Apr 1800 and again 6 Mar 1804.

note: The officer of a manor whose duty it was to impound stray cattle.


On 17 Nov 1791 he married Hannah Clark. They are thought to have several children. Presumably after Hannah's death, he married Mary "Polly" Briggs, (daughter of George & Lydia Briggs)

Stephen and Mary had 5 children:

*Nathaniel Austin

*Mary Austin

*Justin Austin

*Hulda Austin

His exact death date or place is unknown, and no will has been found.
