Charles (Chuck) Edward Niccum, 79, of Milroy, Indiana, passed away on March 30, 2023 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Chuck was born on September 25, 1943 to Ernest and Elizabeth Niccum in Scottsburg, Indiana. He grew up in Deputy, Indiana and was the third of seven boys. After Chuck graduated from Madison Shawe Memorial High School in 1961, he went on to study Agriculture at Purdue University. In 1965, Chuck met Jane Power at a 4-H Junior Leader trip and reconnected at the Indiana State Fair Camp and the rest was history. Chuck and Jane went on to have four children. He began his career at PAG, Cargill, and then Wilstar Seeds as a Production Manager. In 1977, Chuck came to Milroy to start his own business, Niccum Seeds, growing corn, soybeans, and wheat. He created this business to produce and sell these products both locally and internationally. Chuck employed hundreds of our area's youth for decades and, for many, this was their first job and taught them the value of hard work. Chuck gave back to his community by his involvement as a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served on the school board, finance committee, being a lay minister, the Knights of Columbus, and was "Santa" for many years. He belonged to the Rush County Extension Board, Milroy Economic Development Committee, the Milroy Community Club, and several professional seed associations. Chuck's dedication to family, community, his contributions to agriculture, and his wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all.
He is survived by Mark (Monica) Niccum of Sprit Lake, Iowa, Cheryl (John) Mahon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Eric (LaRhonda) Niccum of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer (Brad) Tanksley of New Palestine, Indiana. He had ten grandchildren (Amanda, Samantha, Stephanie, Jessica, Cameron, Kekuta, Drew, Vanessa, Brendan, and Brooke) and four great-grandchildren (Aiden, Landon, Elliot, and Aubri). He is also survived by his brothers Jerry (Becki) Niccum, Paul (Gerry), and Frank (Brigetti, deceased) and several nieces and nephews.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers David (Sandy), Andrew and Brian.
Visitation Services will be held at Todd's Funeral Centre with the rosary beginning at 3:45pm and viewing 4-8pm on April 4, 2023. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Memorial contributions can be made to Charles E. and Jane Power Niccum Fund
