Alvin Ray Almond, age 79, passed away quietly on May 17, 2008 in Provo, Utah.




Ray was born on Feb. 27, 1929 in Stanley Co., North Carolina, son of Robert and Christina Hathcock Almond. He married Bonnie Smith on July 21, 1954 in the Logan Utah Temple. He served in the US Navy on board the USS Zellars during the Korean War. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from NC State University, he began his career in Northern Virginia as a civilian engineer in several branches of the US government. Ray, aka "W4VOO", was an avid amateur radio operator; loved computers, electronics and fishing.





Survived by his wife, Bonnie of Provo, Utah; children: Ellen Bond, Gary Almond, Russell Almond, Marcella Almond, and Lisa Huffman; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his son, Michael Almond.






Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 12 noon at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah. A Viewing will be held one hour prior to the Services at the Mortuary.
Interment at Utah Veteran's Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluffdale, Utah.
