Ewell was the son of Asa Barton Reynolds and Mary Ann Bradner, (She was the second wife of Asa). Asa first wife died in 1877, He remarried to Mary Ann (Polly) Nov 29, 1878. They had 15 children. Ewell was their fourth child.

Ewell married Dorothea "Dollie" Maud Coleman on Sep 16, 1906 in Carroll County, VA. They had 15 children , 14 of whom lived to adulthood.
1. Emma Lee 1907-1987. She married Garland Cecil Archer. They had 5 children.
2. Ethel Margaret- 1909-1997 She married Cecil Drake Crockett in 1927. They had 5 children.
3. Howard Brooks Reynolds 1910-1996 He married Nettie Mae Kirby in 1928. They had 3 sons.
4. Dexter Buford Reynolds 1912-1986 He married Ila Odessa Mabry on July 17, 1934. They had 2 children.
5. Ewell Branson Reynolds JR. 1914-1983 He married Edith Virginia Russell on 28 Nov 1938 in Wytheville, VA They had 2 daughters.
6. Nicholas Graham Reynolds 1915-1973. He married Aletysqa Dawn Stoots on June 27, 1947 . They had 2 boys and 2 girls.
7. Mary Sue Reynolds 1917-1996. She was married twice. First to Johnny Raymond Stoots on May 26, 1937 They 2 children. Then she married Emmett Grayden Akers on Jan 15, 1964 in North Carolina/
8. Richard Joshua Reynolds 1919-1919. He died in infacncy
9. Rachel Alma Reynolds 1921-2015 She married Gordon Brinkley "Bink" Cline . They had 3 daughters and one son.
10. Eldridge Walter Reynolds 1922-2009 He married Annie Ethel Ayers on Aug 17, 1940 in North Carolina. They had 3 children.2 boys and a girl.
11. Kathryn Virginia Reynolds 1924-2002 She married William Curtis Thompson in 1941 They had 2 sons
12. Madeline "Mattie" Alice Reynolds 1925-1982 She married Willie George Shelton on Feb. 4m 1956. They had one daughter Deborah Kay Shelton.
13. James Paul Reynolds 1928-1994 He married Agnes Lee Wright on Sep 10, 1940 in North Carolina. They had 2 children.
14. Dorothy Dottie Reynolds- 1930-2009 She married Millard Reichenbach on Sept 6, 1947 They had 3 daughters.
15. Willard "Billy" Coleman Reynolds 1932-2003 He married Sara Aileen Armbrister on Aug 6, 1953 They had 7 children , 6 daughters and 1 son.
