Mary was the third of eleven children born to parents Albert Gallatin and Jane (Rhea) Lea. In 1840 the family as living in Wilson County, Tennessee. In 1848 they moved from Tennessee to Warren County, Illinois. They moved to Abingdon, Illinois in 1850 and to McDonough County, Illinois in 1857. Later that year her father died.

Mary married Reuben E. Turner on November 11, 1857 in McDonough County, Illinois and they had eight children, two of which died at an early age: Eugene Lee; Harry O.; Ralph B.; Leon L.; Irene; Ethel Rosebud; two unknown.

Reuben was employed as a carpenter. In 1860 they were living in Savannah, Missouri and by 1870 they were in Lathrop, Missouri. By 1875 they had moved to Cherokee County, Kansas. Reuben died sometime between 1880 and 1900, probably in Colorado. From 1888 to 1900 Mary was in Colorado. In 1900 and 1910 Mary was living in Denver, Colorado. By 1920 Mary was living in Long Beach, California. Her two daughters also lived there. She died of uterine cancer.

Mrs. Mary O. Turner, 84, died this morning at her home, 329 Redondo Avenue. She was a native of Tennessee and had lived here 10 years. Formerly Mrs. Turner was of Denver. Two daughters, Mrs. J. Parke and Mrs. L. Schaefer reside here. Mrs. Turner was a member of the First Christian Church. The body is at the Mottell parlors.

Mrs. Mary Turner
The funeral of Mrs. Mary Turner, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leon Schaefer, 329 Redondo Avenue, will be held from the J.J. Mottell chapel Monday at 1 pm, Rev. George P. Taubman will officiate. Interment will be made in Sunnyside Cemetery.
