MILDRED GAGE

NORWICH - Mildred K. Gage, 93, of 52 West Main St., Norwich, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 21, 2000, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Born in Sidney, Mildred grew up in that are and attended the local Sidney schools. She was employed for a brief time by the former Scintilla of Sidney. In 1930, Mildred moved to Norwich, working for Chenango County for a time and subsequently taking employment with the Norwich Phamacal Company, continuing with them for 19 years until her retirement in 1972. An avid bowler most of her adult life, Mildred was a member of the Norwich Women's Bowlers Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1985. She remained active in the bowling circle, bowling until the age of 89. Mildred was a member of the Broad St. United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a former member of the D.A.R., and was formerly a very active member of the Home Bureau.

Born June 22, 1907, in Sidney, Mildred was the daughter of Chancey and Grace (Merrill) Simmons. On Dec. 13, 1930, in Norwich, she married Joseph Gage, who passed away in 1951. Mildred is survived by her daughters: Sabra (Sally) Thomsen of Norwich, and Judith Erb of Preston; six grandchildren and their spouses: James and Laurel Welch of Albany; Scott and Lori Welch of Pavilion; Jeffrey and Theresia Welch of Urbandale, Iowa; Joleen and Jeff Center of Earlville; John Coon of Oneonta; and Joel Coon of Norwich; and by five great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her husband, Joe, Mildred was predeceased by her sisters Bertha, Hazel, Edna, Gladys, and Ruth, and her brother, Leon Simmons.

Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Rebekah Sweet, pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broad Street United Methodist Church, designated for either the Tuesday Night Soup and Sandwich Program or the Brick Fund.
