John Franklin McGlothlen, son of Margaret and John McGlothlen was born in Indiana, September 15, 1855 and died at his home in Spring Hill April 22, 1929, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 7 days.

In early manhood he made the good confession and united with the First Baptist in Indiana, later transferring his letter to the Christian church at Spring Hill, Iowa.

On August 20, 1876 he was united in marriage to Alice Jane Baber, living in and around this community all of their married life.

To this union were born three children, Mamie Vance, who preceded him to her Heavenly Home in 1914, and Mrs. Retta Wood and Mrs. Nora Hollings both of Spring Hill, Iowa.

On March 19, 1908, Mrs. McGlothlen answered the call of her Heavenly Father and went home– leaving a vacant place– but many sweet memories.

On August 22, 1912 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Joana Essick of Spring Hill, who lived and filled his life with pleasure until September 1926, when she was called home.

In all his labor he has considered the interest of all others first, forgetting his own pleasure and comforts and finding his great happiness in serving others.

Mr. McGlothlen was a dutiful husband, a loving father and grandfather—a devoted friend and a kind neighbor—who had a wide circle of friends.

Among those who mourn their loss are two daughters, Mrs. Retta Wood and Mrs. Nora Hollings, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. McGlothen's daughters desire to thank the friends who so kindly assisted them in their sorrow and trouble.
