Died
Mr. Joseph Keaton, aged 72 years, 9 months and 11 days, died at his home at 615 G street, of Bright's disease, Tuesday July 20th 1909, at 5:40 p. m.

Mr. Keaton was a native of Indiana, born near Terre Haute, in Vigo county, Oct. 9th, 1836. When nineteen years of age he went with his father to California where he remained for seven years. During his stay on the coast, the civil war broke out and he enlisted in the California Battalion and serving his country faithfully as a union soldier was honorably discharged in the autumn of 1865. After the war he returned to Indiana and was married to Miss Lydia Shirly on the 21st of June 1886. As the fruit of this union were born two sons and two daughters: Joseph Keaton, of New York City, Mrs. Rosa K. Jones, of Terre Haute, Ind., Mrs. Birdie K. Brafford, of Seattle, Wash., and Jessie B. Keaton, of Perry, Okla.

Shortly after his war experience, he returned to Indiana and in Vigo county engaged in milling and became an expert in this occupation. After more than twenty-five years of experience in the milling business, in 1883 he came with his family to Oklahoma, and at the era of the opening of the Strip he succeeded in getting a good quarter of land three miles west of Perry. Since 1900 he has with his family made his residence in this city. In the latter part of 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Keaton united with the Presbyterian church and have been consistent members. He has been in poor health for four years past and has born his suffering with Christian forbearance. He was an excellent man, a good neighbor and a splendid citizen. His company was sought after because of his originality.

The funeral was conducted by his pastor, S. H. Parvin. The services occurred on Thursday the 22nd of July.
